VMix Creative Director New York City

Iain graduated as a mature student from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in December 2024 after completing the Creative Producing Conservatory program. He specializes in Creative Producing and Live Directing with VMix for live streams.

Born and brought up in rural 1970’s North Yorkshire, UK, he developed a talent for making standard 8mm films using his father’s clockwork Bolex cine camera. With a passion for making films brought to a gradual impasse by family pressure, and what life threw at him. He did what all his generation did, he became an IT consultant in London for blue chip companies.

At the age of 40, burnt out, he dropped out and created a small video production company called, Red Power Station (as he lived for awhile opposite Battersea Power Station, a famous London landmark). Ending up in the incubator program of  a major London film and TV college (Ravensbourne), he went to work creating an outrageous multi camera TV chat show hosted by his friend Emmanuel Ray, featuring notable characters such as a vampire merman and an underground film producer, Peter Thorndike, who was making a zombie movie. The bills were being made by being hired as an ENG cameraman who edited, filmed conferences and made small commercial projects.

After Ravensbourne, he moved to East London and found a perfect spot to film his next show, The Trybe TV Show; a squat community center called the Hive in trendy Dalston. A long form chat / variety / music show with a Saturday night party live audience vibe, fronted by two presenters, Fusion (an ex hip hop artist and music journalist) and the beautiful Rosa Lewandowski. Items included Ask the Yogi – ask the yogi any question and he would answer in a yogic way (it usually involved ants); Weekend Tribes – naked people being painted in a “my bloody valentine valentine” theme; two live bands and interviews.

Life was interrupted by the death of his father and looking after an elderly mother. He retired to Portugal in July 2019. He drank a lot of coffee, lived in Porto, an RV and Lisbon. After attempting to produce another YouTube show in Lisbon he met an American Producer in the coffee kiosk outside his apartment. She convinced Iain that he needed to study at NYFA to become the producer he was born to be, and the Trybe TV Show could become sustainable reality.

Iain now lives in Brooklyn, New York.
